Iwobi Breaks Ten-Year-Old Transfer Record As Everton Announce Signing
Published: August 08, 2019
Everton have completed the signing of Nigeria international Alex Iwobi from Arsenal, informs the Toffees official website.
The Hale End Academy product has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, keeping him at Everton until at least June 30, 2024.
Though the financial terms have not been disclosed by the two clubs, the transfer fee Everton paid for Iwobi is at least £35m, making him the most expensive player of Nigerian descent in history.
Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor previously held the title of the most expensive player of Nigerian descent in history following his move to Manchester City from Arsenal for a transfer fee of €29 million in July 2009.
Despite the transfer window closed for business, the deal was ratified by the Premier League because a deal sheet was submitted before the 1700 hours deadline.
