New Everton Signing Iwobi Ruled Out Of Premier League Opener Vs Crystal Palace
Published: August 08, 2019
Alex Iwobi has to wait until next week before getting a chance to make his competitive debut for his new club Everton and this has nothing to do with his fitness.
The Toffees could not complete the signing of the Nigeria international prior to the 1700 hours deadline and the full paperwork was received by the Premier League after the transfer window closed.
Iwobi will be available for selection against Watford at Goodison Park on Saturday, August 17.
''He became the Blues' seventh summer acquisition, reuniting with former colleague Walcott, but was not registered in time to be eligible for Saturday's Premier League opener at Crystal Palace,'' Everton wrote on their official website.
Everton have not disclosed the jersey number to be worn by Iwobi for the 2019-2020 season but the good news is that the number 17 is vacant following the departure of Idrissa Gueye to PSG.
The 23-year-old has made 100 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals.
