Chelsea Receive Bad News From Netherlands On In-form Striker Ugbo
Published: December 19, 2019
Chelsea have received bad news from the Netherlands regarding the fitness of one of their Nigerian loanees, Ike Ugbo.
Ugbo has emerged as a doubt for Roda's next league match in the Dutch Eerste Divisie against Almere City on Friday, December 20 as he was unavailable for selection on Tuesday when they tackled Chidera Ejike's Heerenveen in the KNVB Beker.
According to regional newspaper De Limburger, Roda coach Jean-Paul de Jong had to do without his best player against Heerenveen owing to injury and he was replaced in the starting line-up by Mart Remans.
Without the number 9 in the squad, the Roda attack lacked bite and they eventually lost by two goals to nothing, with Ejike setting up the first goal scored by Mitchell van Bergen in the 44th minute.
Ugbo has been Roda's cornerstone in the league this season, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances, his best goal haul since he turned professional.
The Nigeria Football Federation are keeping tabs on the former England U17 international with a view to a future call-up to the national team.
Roda JC are his fourth loan club after previous spells at English Football League teams Barnsley, Milton Keynes Dons and Scunthorpe United.
