Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool Suffer Blow In Pursuit Of Lille Goal Poacher Osimhen
Published: February 23, 2020
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool et al have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen, with Lille president Gerard Lopez assuring that the Nigeria international will remain at the club for the 2020-2021 season.
Osimhen has highlighted his quality for Lille this season, racking up 18 goals in 36 matches across all competitions, and continues to attract interest from Europe's elite clubs in Spain and England.
Lopez insisted that the Super Eagle is going nowhere in the summer, except for circumstances beyond his control.
Speaking to RTL's Soir de Ligue 1 on Sunday, Lopez was asked to comment on the future of his number 7 and he replied : "Osimhen will be at Lille next season. Afterwards, there are factors that I cannot control.
"I do not control the fact that a club arrives and offers a salary six or eight times higher than what we can offer.
"But I think sometimes it's better not to take a big salary and wait until next season".
In his latest match, Osimhen provided an assist as Lille ran out 3-0 winners against Toulouse, a victory that kept their Champions League hopes alive.
