Omeruo Admits Supporting Man Utd Before Switching Allegiance To Chelsea; Wants To Play Under Klopp
Published: May 04, 2020Kenneth Omeruo has admitted that he was a Manchester United supporter before joining Chelsea in January 2012.
The Blues were interested in signing Omeruo and his defensive partner Ganiyu Ogungbe after scouting both players during the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup but the move for the latter fell through due to a financial disagreement between Chelsea and the player's agent.
"I was supporting Manchester United growing up. After I got signed by Chelsea, everything was Chelsea, up till now it is still Chelsea," Omeruo told Eagles Tracker.
"It was great signing for Chelsea because it came as a surprise, I never believed it could happen but at the end of the day it happened, I was so happy.
"Unfortunately I had to go on loan because of work permit so I went to ADO Den Haag where I got playing time until I was called back by Chelsea."
The Nigeria international picked Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as the coach he wants to play under, labeling the German tactician a 'very smart coach'.
"It's Klopp the Liverpool manager, he seems interesting. He would be a coach that is very smart and that can read games. I still don't know how they did it this season," Omeruo concluded.
A product of Nigeria Professional Football League side Sunshine Stars, Omeruo trialed at RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liege before his celebrated move to Chelsea.
