Nigerian manager who dreams of coaching Golden Eaglets leads Chelsea to U18 PL South title
Published: May 07, 2024
Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman has guided Chelsea to their first U18 Premier League South title since 2018, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
In Sulaiman's first full season in charge as Chelsea U18s boss, the Blues won the title on Tuesday afternoon following a 2-1 victory over Southampton at Staplewood Training Ground in Hampshire.
He graduated with a first class from University of the Arts, London College of Communication, and holds a UEFA A License, a coaching license that allows holders to be head coaches of youth teams up to age 18, reserve teams for top-flight clubs, and men’s professional second-tier clubs.
Aged 38, Hassan Sulaiman dreams of coaching Nigeria's U17 national team, the Golden Eaglets in the near future.
Against Southampton, he meant business from the word go, naming Tyrique George in the matchday squad, which very few people saw coming given that the exciting 18-year-old winger has been called up for three of the last five matches contested by the first team in the Premier League.
Apart from George, two other players of Nigerian descent in the shape of Tayo Subuloye and Rio Ngumoha started for the Blues.
Southampton started strongly but fell behind in the 20th minute when Ato Ampah swept home a cross.
Nine minutes into the second half, the Saints equalized through Aston Daley, who finished via the far post, before Frankie Runham scored the title-winning goal in the 81st minute.
Chelsea will face northern champions Manchester United in the U18 Premier League final, with the winner qualifying for the prestigious UEFA Youth League.
