Published: July 02, 2020It has come to light that Cyriel Dessers dreamed of playing for Belgian First Division A team Racing Genk as a child, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Super Eagles invitee is now a player of the Blue-White after inking a four-year contract with the club earlier this week, ending his four-year association with Dutch clubs in the process.
A picture of Dessers wearing a Racing Genk jersey eighteen years ago has been posted on Twitter by the striker himself, and he stated, "As a little boy you dream of great things. I dreamed of KRC Genk."
Top scorer in the Eredivisie for the 2019-2020 season with 15 goals, Dessers represented Belgian clubs FC De Zwaluw Vechmaal, Union FC Rutten, SK Tongeren, St-Truiden and Oud-Heverlee Leuven before turning professional.
"Cyriel has developed excellently in the Netherlands as a footballer and as a real goalscorer. He is Belgian, still young and ready to take the next step in his career," sporting director of Genk, Dimitri de Condé told the club's official website.
"The fact that he was a supporter of our club as a child only makes it even better."
The 25-year-old Dessers was unveiled with the number nine jersey, which is now vacant following Mbwana Samatta's switch to Aston Villa in the winter transfer market.
