Official : Former Legia Warsaw, Wisla Krakow Midfielder Ekwueme Joins New Club In Poland
Published: July 28, 2020Polish third league club Lechia Zielona Góra have officially announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Martins Ekwueme.
The 34-year-old has appended his signature to a two-year contract which comes into effect on August 1, 2020.
Martins Ekwueme is unarguably the most popular Nigerian footballer in Poland still active, with spells at Polonia Warsaw, Legia Warsaw and Wisla Krakow among others.
Speaking on his new club, Ekwueme told reporters at his unveiling ceremony : "I don't feel that this is a sports relegation and that I am moving from the second to the third league. The trainer and the president convinced me, they have their ambitions.
"The coach remained, even though we fell to the fourth league. The players believed in the coach's philosophy.
"This is a team that wants to dominate the game and play soccer and I like to play soccer. I decided that it would be the best for me and my family."
Martins' sibling, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.
