Ex-Chelsea Coach Of Nigerian Descent On The Cusp Of Making History With Trabzonspor
Published: July 29, 2020Former Chelsea assistant coach of Nigerian parentage, Eddie Newton could make history this evening by becoming the first coach to win a trophy with Trabzonspor after two games in the dugout.
The Anglo-Nigerian football tactician took over the reins as manager of Trabzonspor after the contract between the club and coach Huseyin çimşir was mutually terminated.
And in Newton's first game as coach of the Karadeniz Fırtınası, they registered a 2-1 road win against Kayserispor last Saturday.
Speaking ahead of today's Turkish Cup final against Alanyaspor, Newton said : "I hope we will get the result we want and return with a cup.
"We will have a very good opponent. We worked against the strengths of our opponent. It is really exciting to be in the final.
"I hope we will get the result we want and return with the trophy. The times will be difficult times, but we will go to the cup final.
"Second place was not the place we wanted, but the cup final is delightful. In such matches, players do not need extra motivation.
"Football without fans cannot be called football. Since I came to this country, our fans have supported us everywhere."

Having missed the final game in the Super Lig due to injury, former Super Eagles invitee Anthony Nwakaeme has passed a fitness test and traveled with the Trabzonspor squad to Istanbul on Tuesday.
