'Has done very well' - Atalanta coach impressed by form of 17yo Nigerian defender
Published: October 18, 2025
Atalanta head coach Ivan Juric has praised Honest Ahanor for his strong defensive displays ahead of the club's Serie A encounter against Lazio.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference in Bergamo, Juric acknowledged the 17-year-old defender’s performances and readiness to contribute to the team’s efforts.
"Meanwhile, Honest has done very well and made a great contribution at the back. The evaluations will be technical, but everyone will obviously be ready to make their contribution,” Juric stated, as quoted by Tuttosport.
The Atalanta manager addressed the media as his side prepared to face Lazio at the Gewiss Stadium, outlining his confidence in the players available for selection.
Juric confirmed that training sessions throughout the week had been positive, with the entire squad focused on maintaining consistency after recent draws in the league.
He also discussed the importance of assessing each player’s condition before the match, noting that technical decisions would determine the final lineup.
Juric’s remarks placed emphasis on collective readiness and the commitment shown by every member of the squad.
Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, Ahanor is eligible to play for Nigeria at international level, a prospect that could soon place him on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation as they plan for the future of the Super Eagles.
