Onuachu On Target For Genk; Super Eagles Hopeful Dessers Scores Penalty On His Debut
Published: August 09, 2020
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu came from the bench to score a crucial goal for Racing Genk as they came from behind to register a 2-1 win against Zulte-Waregem at the Regenboogstadion (Waregem) on the opening day of the Belgian First Division A season on Sunday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Trailing 1-0 through an Olivier Deschacht goal scored after 40 minutes, Onuachu, a 57th minute sub, brought the visitors back on level terms when he produced a delicate left-footed chip over the goalkeeper with 17 minutes left on the clock.
New signing from Heracles Almelo and Eredivisie top scorer for last season, Cyriel Dessers was preferred ahead of the lanky striker in Genk's starting lineup.
And it was the Belgian-Nigerian striker, who was recently in the news for all the wrong reasons, that scored what proved to be the winning goal, converting a spot kick ten minutes from time.
The Super Eagles hopeful then had a chance to double his tally but fluffed his lines.
Young Nigeria-eligible center back Shawn Adewoye and ex-Mountain of Fire striker Stephen Odey were not in Genk's matchday 19 vs Zulte-Waregem.
