Official : Arsenal Announce Signing Of Nigerian-Born Midfielder Akinola
Published: August 19, 2020With a statement on their official website, English Premier League side Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola on undisclosed terms.
Though the length of contract signed by the former Huddersfield Town starlet has not been disclosed by the Gunners, allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that he is committed to the Emirates Stadium outfit until June 30, 2022, having put pen to paper on a two-year contract.
The 19-year-old has already started training with his new teammates at Arsenal U23s ahead of the new season.
Akinola is eligible to represent Nigeria and England at international level, however, it is believed that his heart is with Nigeria.
Four years ago, he trialed with Team Nigeria UK and was supposed to travel with the team for a friendly against the Golden Eaglets in Lagos but the match was called off by the Nigeria Football Federation at the last minute because of the cost of flying the Nigeria U17s from Abuja to Lagos.
During his time with Lincoln City, he was named on the bench for an EFL Trophy fixture with Accrington Stanley.
Akinola started his youth career in England with League Two club Mansfield Town.
