Chelsea Legend Mikel Captains Stoke City For 58 Minutes In 3-0 Rout Of Leeds United
Published: September 01, 2020Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has played his second non-competitive game for his new club Stoke City, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The central midfielder was named in the starting lineup as the Potters registered a comprehensive 3-0 win against Premier League new boys Leeds United at the Bet365 Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Mikel has to wait until the opening day of the Championship before he's considered for a competitive debut as he wasn't in the matchday squad for the League Cup win vs Blackpool last weekend.
Today's friendly, Stoke City's penultimate preparatory game before the new Championship season, consisted of two halves of forty minutes each.
Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross had to make way for Lindsay seven minutes into the contest after picking up an injury, so the armband was handed to Mikel.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner and two-time World Cupper wore the armband for 58 minutes until he was replaced on 65 minutes.
Michael O’Neill’s team ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Nathan Collins, Lee Gregory and Tom Ince.
