Miguel Azeez Scores First Goal At U21 Level As Arsenal Beat Crawley Town In EFL Trophy
Published: October 14, 2020Nigeria-eligible midfielder Miguel Azeez scored his first official goal for Arsenal U21 team as they registered a hard-fought 2-1 win over League Two opponents Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Previously, Azeez was not in contention to face the Red Devils as he was away on international duty with England U19s squad but he had to return to Arsenal after the Young Lions match vs Scotland was cancelled as a precaution in line with COVID-19 protocol.
Azeez was one of five players of Nigerian descent picked by Steve Bould in his starting lineup, the others being goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who was making a return to action after more than a year on the sidelines, Ryan Alebiosu, Tim Akinola and James Olayinka.
It was 1-1 at the break, with Max Watters equalising for the home team and Jordan McEneff giving the Gunners the lead.
Nine minutes after the restart, Azeez scored what proved to be the match-winner when he fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
The 18-year-old Azeez scored his first goal for Arsenal U21 and U23 teams in his ninth appearance.
