Arsenal Icon Ian Wright Reveals Eze Has Emerged As A Key Player For Crystal Palace
Published: February 03, 2021
Crystal Palace defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at St James' Park on Tuesday night with England U21 international of Nigerian descent Eberechi Eze in the thick of action for the visitors.
The Magpies scored the opening goal after less than two minutes with a strong shot from Jonjo Shelvey but Palace buckled up as Jairo Riedewald netted the equaliser before Gary Cahill's game-winning goal, assisted by Eze.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright noted that the Nigeria Football Federation target has emerged as a key player for Roy Hodgson's side and has become an important attacking outlet.
And the stats back up his claim as Eze has gone the distance in all but one of their matches played by the Eagles in the Premier League this year, scoring two goals while producing an assist.
Speaking on Premier League Productions,Wright stated : "The thing with Palace is defensively they are going to be very sound.
"I think Eze is part of their squad now, he's so integral to everything they do going forward alongside, obviously Wilfried Zaha, so we'll see how it goes from now.
"But it's always going to be a tough game, Newcastle needed to put in a performance we saw against Everton against a Palace side because they are very resolute and they've got players capable of going forward and creating the scoring".
Cahill scored the match-winner when he met Eze's free-kick and glanced it into the far corner in the 25th minute.
