Orlando City coach admits it would take something exceptional for Barnsley to keep Dike
Published: March 04, 2021Orlando City coach Oscar Pareja expects American-Nigerian striker Daryl Dike to return to the club when his loan deal with Championship side Barnsley runs out at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
Barnsley have an option to buy the 20-year-old permanently in the summer while Orlando City inserted a conditional right of
recall into the loan deal.
Dike has been in fine form of late, scoring two goals in his last three games in the English second-tier.
"Daryl’s spot is here in Orlando," Pareja said to Orlando Sentinel.
"I think he has done great in his career so far and we’re waiting on Daryl to compete with us this year.
"But if something exceptional happens, if some door gets opened for him, then we’ll have to just accept it and put that as a good path for others, especially youngsters here in the club".
Dike had a tremendous rookie season with Orlando City, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 17 Major League Soccer appearances.
