Hoogewerf scores and assists but Manchester United lose five-goal thriller to Newcastle U18s
Published: April 18, 2021
Manchester United's hopes of winning the U18 Premier League North title took a major hit after they conceded a late goal to lose 3-2 to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Dutch-born striker of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf put in an impressive individual display against the Magpies, scoring and providing an assist in the five-goal thriller at the Newcastle United Football Academy.
The game was reminiscent of Newcastle United's 3-2 home win against West Ham United in the Premier League.
Newcastle United U18s had established a two-goal lead through Joshua Scott and Kyle Crossley.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Iqbal fired into the bottom corner after he was found by Hoogewerf and the Dutch-Nigerian striker turned from provider to scorer when he headed home to make it 2-2 on 81 minutes.
Huntley struck at the death to deny Manchester United a share of the spoils.
Former Ajax Amsterdam whizkid Hoogewerf is having his best season since joining Manchester United, he has contributed to 15 goals (6 goals and 9 assists) in 15 matches in the U18 Premier League.
