Tottenham's Etete scores consolation goal vs Chelsea U23, four days after training with first team
Published: April 18, 2021
Kion Etete was on target for Tottenham Hotspur but could not prevent the north London club from losing 4-1 to Chelsea in a Premier League 2 match on Sunday afternoon.
Several players of Nigerian descent were given minutes at Hotspur Way Training Centre (London), with Etete, goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi and Tobi Omole starting for the home team, while Chelsea striker Bryan Fiabema entered the game as a substitute in the 32nd minute.
Etete was promoted to first team training by manager Jose Mourinho four days ago, but was left out of the squad for the trip to Goodison Park.
Goals from McEachran and Ballo had put Chelsea 2-0 up but Etete gave Tottenham Hotspur a lifeline when he reduced the deficit from the spot in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, before Vale and Nunn netted in the second half.
With his strike against the Blues, Etete is now one goal shy of reaching the double digit in goals in this season's Premier League 2 and he has produced three assists after 20 games.
Prior to his promotion to the U23 team, he tallied an impressive 10 goals in 14 appearances for the U18s.
Spurs return to Premier League 2 action against Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday, April 23.
