Leicester boss lauds Iheanacho but identifies two areas of his game that were lacking against Saints
Published: April 18, 2021
Kelechi Iheanacho continued his rich vein of form since the start of March by netting the game-winner for Leicester City in their 1-0 win against Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.
With his 55th minute strike, the Nigeria international took his tally for the season to 15 goals, breaking his personal single-season scoring record in the process.
Iheanacho, who had a quiet first half, put away the rebound after his first shot was blocked following brilliant work from Jamie Vardy down the left.
Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that the confidence level of his number 14 is high at the moment but identified two areas of his game that were lacking in the win against the Saints.
"His confidence levels are very high. Some of his set up play and build up play was a bit loose today but his confidence was not affected by that," Rodgers told BBC Sport.
"Him and Jamie are a real threat but it is very much a team effort."
Iheanacho has scored 14 goals in nineteen appearances in the Emirates FA Cup since his debut in the competition, more than any other African player.
