Official : Derby County confirm signing of box-to-box Nigerian midfielder from Arsenal academy
Published: June 14, 2021Through their official website, Championship club Derby County have finally confirmed their retained and released list ahead of the resumption of pre-season training for the 2021-2022 season.
The Rams have announced that box-to-box Nigerian midfielder Adebayo Fapetu will begin the first year of his scholarship from the summer of 2021, just as allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported more than three months ago.
Fapetu is joining Derby County after ten years at the Arsenal academy having joined the Gunners in 2011.
The London-born starlet will represent Derby County U18s next season along with former Manchester United schoolboy of Nigerian descent, Ola Ibrahim who will enter the second year of his scholarship at Derby.
Former Manchester City and Manchester City midfielder Osazee Aghatise is not age-eligible for the U18s next season and has been promoted to the U23 side, while left winger Josh Shonibare has been released.
Republic of Ireland youth teamer of Nigerian parentage, Festy Ebosele is out of contract beyond the summer of 2021 but has been offered fresh terms.
In terms of the first-team players, onetime Nigeria Football Federation target, Jordon Ibe has been retained and goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem has been released.
