Euro 2020 Golden Boot– The Contenders

Published: June 14, 2021
Euro 2020 Golden Boot– The ContendersOne of football's most coveted awards has been the top goalscorer award. The name of this award will change depending on the competition, however, the thing that won’t change is the prestige associated with it.

Every year, pre-tournament, there will be lengthy discussions about the front runners for such awards. It is an award that will put a player’s name in the history books and they will be forever remembered as one of the greats.

In the past we have seen names like Muller, Lineker, Eusebio, Klose, Zidane, Griezmann and most recently, from World Cup 2018, Harry Kane.

This year's Euro 2020 Golden Boot will be equally as anticipated as any before it. There are many top-quality players in this year’s tournament, but some stick out more than others as potential Golden Boot winners.

It is not always about the best player, but often is about the squads they are facing.

We are going to look at a few of the realistic contenders for this year's Euro 2020 competition, providing reasoning behind every entry.

Odds, Tips & Predictions for the Euro 2020 Golden Boot Award

If you are looking to back a winner for the Euro 2020 golden boot, check out the tips below while you can also find out more about who will claim the golden boot award from expert sports analysts.

Not only are there big names like Mbappe and Kane who are favourites, but also find out who the tournament’s dark horses and long shots are!

Romelu Lukaku is playing for the world’s number one rated team Belgium and with the right service is worth a punt, while if Morata can find his form on the international stage, he is also another great long shot to back!

1. Harry Kane, England

World Cup 2018s most prolific striker and currently considered one of the deadliest strikers in world football.

The England man has won the English Premier League Golden Boot in 3 of the last 6 years making him one of the most sought-after strikers on the entire planet.

England has also been blessed with not the most difficult of groups as they will face Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic, with Harry Kane expected to have many opportunities to put himself on the scoresheet.

If England can make it to the final 4 then it would be a brave person to bet against Harry Kane lifting the award.

2. Robert Lewandowski, Poland

Lewandowski finished as the player with the most goals in the 2020/21 season, in the entire world.

The Bayern Munich striker scored an incredible 41 goals for the German club this year and so he can’t be ruled out for the Euro Golden Boot.

Poland has been drawn against Slovakia, Spain and Sweden which will give Lewandowski increased confidence going into the tournament. Slovakia and Sweden are not amongst the tournament favourites and Spain have quite an unfamiliar look about them compared to recent years.

Lewandowski will have every chance of being this year’s top scorer, but it will all depend on if the team can progress out of the group stages.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal

For the past 15 years, there seems to have been no award that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t been in the running for. Even at 36 years old, Ronaldo is still considered as a frightening opponent.

His level of physique is simply uncontested, and with 29 Serie A goals in the 2020/21 season, he is still proving that he is as deadly as ever.

The only thing against the Portugal legend is the difficulty of the group that Portugal finds themselves in. France, Hungary and Germany will be no easy opponents, but this is just testament to Ronaldo’s ability.

Portugal plays a different way with him in the team, and if Portugal can deliver like they can, Ronaldo is already halfway to winning the trophy.
