One-cap Nigeria national teamer captains Genk in 8-1 rout of Eendracht Termien, scores brace
Belgian Cup winners Racing Genk kicked off their pre-season schedule with an emphatic 8-1 rout of fifth-tier Eendracht Termien in a friendly on Saturday, July 3.

The Belgian First Division A side were 3-1 up at half-time thanks to goals from Diawara (2) and Nemeth while Piras pulled a goal back for the amateur team.

Genk coach John van den Brom made wholesale changes for the start of the second half, with one-cap Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers among the players taking to the pitch.

The Belgian-Nigerian attacker, wearing the captain's armband, netted a brace to make it 5-1 and the pick of his goals was a perfectly executed bicycle kick.

Genk's other scorers were Kelvin John, Adnane Abid and Joseph Paintsil.

Racing Genk have lined up friendlies against AS Eupen and AZ before their first competitive game of 2021-2022, the Super Cup match with Belgian champions Club Brugge on July 17.

In the off season, Genk bolstered their squad with the signing of Spanish-Nigerian-Ghanaian central defender Mujaid Sadick from Deportivo de La Coruña.
