Queen of the South hoping to close deal for former Chelsea schoolboy Debayo
Published: July 27, 2021
Scottish Championship side Queen of the South are hoping to wrap up a deal for former Nigeria U17 invitee Josh Debayo in the coming days.
The Daily Record says Queen's boss Allan Johnston is looking for the deal to be done for Debayo to be available for Saturday's Championship opener at Partick Thistle.
Debayo is on the brink of inking a contract with the second-tier side after impressing during trials.
The 24-year-old trialed at League Two club Northampton Town before heading to Scotland to train with Queen of the South.
The fullback played for the youth teams of Chelsea, Fulham, Southampton and Leicester City before moving to Cheltenham Town in 2018, followed by a brief spell at Wealdstone.
Debayo trained with the Golden Eaglets ahead of their trip to the United Arab Emirates for the 2013 U17 World Cup
but was omitted from the final roster.
Josh is the older brother of James Debayo who recently signed a scholarship deal with Leeds United.
