Southampton 1 Manchester United 1 : Super Eagles target benched; no Shoretire
Published: August 22, 2021Manchester United came from behind to register a 1-1 draw with a dogged Southampton side at St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Super Eagles target Nathan Tella watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of ninety minutes while Manchester United's Shola Shoretire was not selected in the matchday 20 after going the distance for the U23s in a Premier League 2 clash with Chelsea on Friday night.
The winger played the last ten minutes of Southampton's 3-1 loss against Alex Iwobi's Everton last weekend, coming off the bench to replace Theo Walcott.
Against the Red Devils this afternoon, manager Ralph Hasenhuettl selected a front three of Che Adams, Adam Armstrong and Walcott, leaving the Anglo-Nigerian on the bench.
The Saints collapsed in the second half in their loss to Everton but showed more steel today and came out with something from the game.
Fred's own goal in the 30th minute gave Southampton a slim advantage at the break and United equalised when Mason Greenwood squeezed a shot past goalkeeper Alex McCarthy ten minutes after the restart after Fernandes and Pogba combined to find the right winger.
Both teams could not find a second goal and had to settle for a point a piece on the South Coast.
