Arsenal's Nigeria-eligible midfielder arrives at League One club to finalize loan move
Published: August 27, 2021EFL League One club Portsmouth are reportedly on the verge of confirming the signing of Arsenal's Nigeria-eligible central midfielder Miguel Azeez.
Football.London says the Hale End Academy product arrived at Portsmouth on Thursday ahead of finalizing a season-long loan move to the Fratton Park outfit.
With no European football this season, the powers that be at the Londoners have decided to loan Azeez to a Football League club, where he will gain first team experience.
Manager Mikel Arteta might have considered the Anglo-Nigerian teenager for the Europa League assuming they qualified for the competition just as was the case in 2020-2021.
Widely regarded as the next academy player to break into Arsenal's first team, Azeez netted the pick of the bunch in a 4-1 rout of Watford during pre-season.
Azeez joined Arsenal at the age of five, progressing through the academy ranks before signing his first professional contract in September 2019 after turning 17.
Tim Akinola and Ryan Alebiosu are the other Arsenal U23 players of Nigerian descent linked with loan moves before the close of the transfer window.
