Sanusi rated Porto's joint-second best player by Sky Sports in surprise start vs Liverpool
Published: September 29, 2021Liverpool registered a convincing 5-1 win over Porto in their second group game of the Champions League at Estádio do Dragão - Porto on Tuesday night.
The biggest surprise in manager Sérgio Conceicao's starting line-up was his decision to hand a start to Zaidu Sanusi.
Even though the Super Eagles left-back started Porto's opening day match versus Atlético Madrid, helping the Portuguese set up keep a clean sheet in forty-five minutes of action, he has not been involved in the last five matches played by the Portuguese giants in the Liga Portugal Bwin.
Liverpool took the lead through Mohamed Salah, who reacted quickest to poke home after goalkeeper Diogo Costa could only parry the ball.
Costa parried the ball to the feet of Sanusi who was unaware the ball was heading to him, allowing the Egyptian to take advantage and open the scoring.
Sadio Mane added a second before halftime, before second half goals from Salah and substitute Roberto Firmino (2) earned the Reds a big win.
In their player ratings, Sky Sports rated Sanusi as Porto's joint-second best player, awarding him six out of ten along with Marcano, Vieira and Vitinha, one less than winger Luis Diaz who got a seven for his efforts.
In a tactical substitution by Conceicao, the Nigerian made way for Wendell ten minutes into the second half.
