Photo : Nigerian defender completes transfer to Burnley Youth; Huddersfield, Ipswich, Boro miss out
Published: November 09, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Premier League club Burnley have pulled off a transfer coup by signing talented Nigeria-eligible right-back Tosin Olopade from Pulse Academy.
The 2004-born defender, who is also eligible to represent Republic of Ireland internationally, has signed a deal with the Clarets until June 30, 2024 following a successful trial.
Olopade was close to joining Football League clubs Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town, having trained with both clubs before auditioning at Burnley.
Middlesbrough monitored him for a while but were slow to get a deal over the line, while Portuguese setup Sporting Clube de Portugal sent one of their talent spotters to run the rule over the defender in England.
Olopade has been described as a very quick defender, difficult to beat in one-on-one situations and has a similar playing style to that of Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
He is expected to start off his career at Burnely with their U18 team and is also eligible to play for the development squad.
It is understood that Olopade is willing to represent Nigeria's youth teams if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
