Simon, Iheanacho, Nwabali Among 18 players in Super Eagles' second training before Russia friendly

The Super Eagles continued their preparations for Tuesday's friendly against Russia with a second training session in Novgorod on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Among the 18 players who took part in the session were Bursaspor forward Kelechi Iheanacho, Paris FC winger Moses Simon and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

With head coach Eric Chelle unable to call upon nine members of his preferred starting lineup, Iheanacho, Simon and Nwabali are expected to play key roles in Tuesday's encounter against the Russians.

Nigeria have been hit by a string of withdrawals ahead of the fixture, with Wilfred Ndidi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika and Akpe Victory among those who have pulled out.

Marquee forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are also unavailable for selection.

The Galatasaray striker is still recovering from injury, while the Atletico Madrid forward was excused after featuring in Nigeria's back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The other players involved in Sunday's training session were Akor Adams, Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Frederick, Wilfred Igor, Samuel James, Kenneth Igboke, Chibuzor Nwoko, Umar Abubakar, Peter Edokpolor, Abdullahi Bewene, Umar Abdullai, Atata Michael, Aderemi Adeoye, Isaac James and Michael Stephen.

The Super Eagles will face Russia at the Sovcombank Arena in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday, with kickoff scheduled for 1800 hours Nigerian time.

Nigeria will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their last outing.
