Ex-Gunner of Nigerian descent hails Martinelli for scoring Arsenal's 7,000th top-flight goal
Nigerian-born central defender Joseph Olowu has praised Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli after his brilliant performance helped Arsenal register a comprehensive 4-1 win over Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Arthur Okonkwo was omitted from Arsenal's matchday squad following the return to fitness of Germany goalie
Bernd Leno and Folarin Balogun was not considered for selection.

Olowu was teammates with Martinelli prior to his release by the north London club at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

The Brazil U23 international continued his red-hot form when he opened the scoring with an emphatic finish in the 16th minute and lifted the ball over the Leeds goalkeeper just before the half-hour mark to double the advantage.

Martinelli's first goal against Leeds United was a milestone for the Gunners - the club's 7,000th goal scored in the top-flight of English football, becoming the third team to reach the landmark after Everton and Liverpool.

The Brazilian posted on social media : "Christmas came a bit earlier this year. Very proud to have scored @arsenal 7000 goal".

Replying to Martinelli's post, Olowu said : "GABI!!! 🔥".

Olowu has scored two goals in his last four matches for Doncaster Rovers in the League One.
