Opinion: Which EPL teams should pounce on Villarreal's sluggishness for Super Eagles star's signature?
Published: July 29, 2022The transfer window is getting closer to the closing stages. As expected, this is a time when clubs do not dally on their transfer targets as anything could happen. This was seen in Manchester United's hijacking of Tyrell Malacia's signing.
One such signing that has the potential to be hijacked is that of Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar. It has been a few weeks since news first broke that Villarreal were actively pushing to sign the lanky striker.
The news has gone cold and while it is not known if the interest from Villarreal has dwindled, allnigeriasoccer thinks some Premier League clubs should pounce on the Spanish side's sluggishness in tying up a deal for Sadiq.
Southampton
Ralph Hasenhüttl utilizes a 2-striker system in a 4-4-2 formation. Usually, Che Adams is usually part of the two frontmen. While there have been rumours of a comeback for Armando Broja, Umar could be a highly capable alternative if a deal for Broja falls through.
Umar is superb at holding the ball up and linking up with his teammates, which is why he gets a lot of assists. Che Adams would no doubt benefit a lot with his secondary runs off the main striker.
Brighton and Hove Albion
Graham Potter is widely known as a highly tactical manager who focuses on having technicians throughout his squad.
It is no coincidence that Arsenal signed Ben White from Brighton for 50 million pounds and Manchester City is also looking to sign Marc Cucurella for roughly the same fee.
One problem Brighton has is the rate at which they score goals. The team creates many chances but score very little which is why Sadiq would be a solid option. He is a consistent goalscorer and has good technical abilities in tight spaces which will complement Potter's team.
