The Eredivisie matches Ajax's Super Eagles defender will miss in August
Published: August 02, 2022Ajax will be without their new signing Calvin Bassey for the first two games of the 2022/2023 season against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday, August 6th and against Groningen on August 14th.
Sittard were previously coached by former Super Eagles midfielder and captain Sunday Oliseh.
The Nigerian received the marching orders on his debut appearance for the Dutch Champions in the Dutch Super Cup against PSV Eindhoven after his poor tackle on an opponent was deservedly punished with a red card.
Ajax lost the game 5-3, an eight-goal thriller that was one of the Cup finals across Europe that heralds the new football season.
Bassey played only 10 minutes in the game before his early showers, having been introduced in the 62nd minute of action.
The former Glasgow Rangers versatile defender who can play on the left side of central defence was also a transfer target of English Premier league side Brighton and Hove.
Last season, Bassey played 29 Premiership games for his former Scottish side, starting 28 of them and was yellow-carded four times.
