'We'll miss them' - PSV's Elephants star on the sale of Madueke, Gakpo to Chelsea, Liverpool
Published: February 05, 2023
PSV Eindhoven's Ivory Coast international Ibrahim Sangaré has stressed that the departure of Chukwunonso Madueke and Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window should not derail their title aspirations this season.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace schoolboy Madueke made a return to London last month, signing a multi-year contract with Chelsea, while Gakpo earned himself a move to Liverpool after an outstanding World Cup.
The two wingers cost the Premier League giants a combined transfer fee in the region of 80 million euros.
London-born winger Madueke started on the bench in Chelsea's last Premier League game against Fulham, but manager Graham Potter decided to hand him a debut off the bench, bringing him on as a replacement for another winter signing Mykhailo Mudryk at halftime
PSV currently sit fourth in the Eredivisie table but trail Feyenoord by four points after they were held to a 2-2 draw by the pacesetters on Sunday.
"To be honest, we will miss them enormously, but even after such a transfer window you have to maintain the good dynamics," Sangaré said to Dutch public broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting.
"The chance that we will become champions is still huge, because the season is still long."
Madueke has been left out of Chelsea's Champions League roster for the second half of the season.
