Super Eagles star Chukwueze equals feat he first achieved against Barcelona
Published: February 28, 2023After four consecutive defeats in La Liga, Villarreal returned to winning ways by beating Getafe 2-1 at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Monday night.
Prior to the visit of The Azulones, the Yellow Submarine were on a bad run, losing to Rayo Vallecano, Elche, Barcelona and RCD Mallorca, and had to come from behind to beat Getafe in their latest game in the division, inspired by their Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze.
Enes Ünal headed into the top corner to open the scoring for the visitors after nine minutes.
In the 44th minute, Chukwueze equalized for Villarreal, pouncing on a rebound and tapping home after Étienne Capoue's shot was parried by goalkeeper David Soria.
Villarreal scored what proved to be the game winner six minutes into the second half when Chukwueze popped up inside the penalty area, got the better of his marker and gave the ball back to Morales who fired past Soria with an unstoppable shot.
According to OPTA, this is the second time in Chukwueze's career that he has both scored and assisted in the same La Liga match.
The Super Eagles winger first achieved the feat on April 2, 2019 as Villarreal and Barcelona shared the spoils with a 4-4 draw.
Chukwueze also scored in back-to-back La Liga games for only the second time in his 140th appearance in the division.
