In the 12th minute, Sergio Ramos was shown a red card for a cynical foul on Antonio Sanabria, who was through on goal. This meant that Real Madrid had to play the rest of the match with 10 men.
Despite being a man down, Real Madrid took the lead in the 28th minute through Karim Benzema. The Frenchman latched on to a pass from Toni Kroos before firing a low shot past Betis goalkeeper Joel Robles.
Betis equalized in the 37th minute through Joaquin, who scored with a free kick from just outside the box. The ball went through the wall and into the back of the net, much to the delight of the home crowd.
The second half started with more drama as Gareth Bale was shown a straight red card in the 48th minute for a dangerous tackle on Denis Cheryshev. This meant that both teams were now down to 10 men.
In spite of this, both teams continued to attack and there were plenty of chances for both sides. In the end, it was Betis who came out on top as they scored two late goals to secure a 3-1 victory over their bitter rivals Real Madrid.
