'We need to continue winning' - Beto reacts to Guinea-Bissau's win over Super Eagles

Norberto Bercique Gomes Betuncal, popularly known as Beto, has urged his Guinea-Bissau teammates to maintain their winning momentum after their impressive victory over Nigeria in Tuesday evening’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The African Wild Dogs caused a major upset on matchday two of the qualifiers, thrashing African powerhouse Nigeria 3-0 at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau.

Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló were on target for the hosts.

Guinea-Bissau have a perfect record in the Afcon qualifiers, having followed up their 2-0 victory over Tanzania with a convincing win against the Super Eagles.

Speaking on behalf of the Guinea-Bissau players after the match, Beto said the squad was delighted with the result.

However, the 28-year-old urged his teammates not to become complacent, stressing that the victory does not mean Guinea-Bissau have already secured their place at the 2027 Afcon.

In quotes relayed by O Democrata, the former Everton star said: "There are still several games to be played. Therefore, we need to continue playing well and winning in order to achieve our goals."

Guinea-Bissau will face Nigeria in the return leg of the 2027 Afcon qualifiers in March 2027.
