Rome-born striker chooses Nigeria over Italy, gets Flying Eagles call-up ahead of World Cup
Published: April 25, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Lechia Gdansk attacker Osakpolor Alessandro Odobo has chosen to represent Nigeria over his country of birth Italy, and is in contention to be named in the Flying Eagles' provisional squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The Nigeria Football Federation have made a move to beat the Italian Football Federation to Odobo by inviting the striker to attend a Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja in preparation for the tournament in Argentina.
Odobo knows a thing or two about the Flying Eagles' Group D opponents Italy, as he was born in the Italian capital Rome, and previously played for the youth teams of Viterbese and Benevento.
The 18-year-old is seen as a very talented player with great potential.
In the current season, Odobo has appeared in nine matches for Lechia Gdansk U19s in the Central Youth League.
Odobo will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Italian-born goalkeeper Jonathan Zaccala, who was a member of the Flying Eagles squad to the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland.
In their second group game of the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup, Nigeria will lock horns with Italy at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza on May 24.
