Ex-England star reveals Chelsea starlet Chukwuemeka would fit into Sheffield United or Burnley
Published: May 15, 2023Retired England international Carlton Palmer has labeled Chelsea starlet Carney Chukwuemeka an 'exciting midfield player', and believes a loan move to either Burnley or Sheffield United would be ideal for all the parties.
According to TEAMTalk, Chelsea are set to make the England U20 international of Nigerian descent available for a loan transfer in the summer.
The Clarets and Blades are expected to heavily strengthen their squads ahead of next season following their promotion to the Premier League, and Chukwuemeka has appeared on their radar.
The 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup-bound midfielder has made just one start for Chelsea since his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa in August 2022 and would be open to leaving the Londoners on a temporary basis as he is seeking more playing time next season.
Chukwuemeka earned a transfer to Chelsea after inspiring England U19s to European Championship glory last summer, scoring three goals and contributing two assists.
"Carney has huge potential. Exciting midfield player. [He] would fit into either Sheffield United or Burnley’s budget," Palmer said to Football League World.
"I would think a loan deal, possibly with an option to buy, cause he's largely unproven at Premier League level, is the way to go forward.
"But yes, I mean [he's an] exciting young midfield player.
"With Sheffield United now losing two players they've had on loan, and Fleck going, that is an area they need to strengthen."
Chukwuemeka managed to log 241 minutes across twelve games in his first season as a Chelsea player.
