Premier League new boys Luton Town considering transfer swoop for Nigerian striker
Published: June 09, 2023
Premier League newcomers Luton Town are weighing up a move Middlesbrough's Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom.
As reported by Football League World, Luton Town are interested in acquiring Akpom who set the English Championship on fire in the last campaign.
After returning from a loan spell at PAOK in Greece, the Arsenal youth product turned his career on its head last season as he scored 28 goals to finish as the English second-tier top scorer.
The 27-year-old's heroics was not enough to get Middlesbrough promoted back to the Premier League as they lost to Coventry City in the Championship playoffs.
The Hale End graduate has one year left on his contract and with Middlesbrough set to spend another year in the Championship, he could be on his way out of the club.
Should the Super Eagles eligible forward move to Luton Town, he will be teaming up with Elijah Adebayo, Gabriel Osho and Fred Onyedinma who are also eligible to play for Nigeria.
Besides the Hatters, Everton and Crystal Palace are also interested in getting his signature.
Per the report, it will cost close to £15 million to acquire Akpom's services from Boro.
