Forest Green Rovers join Stevenage and Salford City in race for Anglo-Nigerian midfielder

Forest Green Rovers are the latest club in the Football League linked with a summer move for former England youth international of Nigerian descent Tariq Uwakwe.
As previously reported, Stevenage and Salford City had lined up talks with the talented midfielder with a view to a permanent transfer.
Providing an update on Wednesday, Football Insider, revealed that Stevenage, Salford City and Forest Green are all vying to sign the former Chelsea starlet in the summer transfer window.
Although Uwakwe has nine days left on his contract with Crewe Alexandra, they are hoping to re-engage him for next season and have offered him new deal to extend his stay at Gresty Road.
Forest Green Rovers are aiming to make an immediate return to the third tier of English football having suffered relegation to the League Two, and have set their sights on signing Uwakwe.
The Cobham product is a versatile player who can operate as a fullback defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and wingback
He joined Crewe Alexandra in January 2022 and has logged 48 appearances for the club with six goal involvements (1 goal, 5 assists).
