Tottenham Hotspur to watch Super Eagles-eligible player in U21 Euro action tonight
Published: June 22, 2023Tottenham Hotspur will watch the European U21 Championship clash between France and Italy at the Cluj Arena-Cluj-Napoca on Thursday night.
Three Super Eagles-eligible players who are on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation are in contention to take to the pitch.
Tottenham Hotspur-owned wing-back Destiny Udogie and Atalanta defender Caleb Okoli have been named in the starting lineup of Gli Azzurrini while 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise starts on the bench for France.
According to Ferdinando Guarino, the agent of Udogie, Tottenham Hotspur will check on the progress of the Italian-Nigerian starlet with a view to making a decision whether to incorporate him into the first team squad or loan him.
The 20-year-old signed a multi-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur last summer and was immediately loaned to Udinese, where he started the season, to continue his development.
Udogie impressed last term for the Bianconeri, scoring three goals and making a further four assists in 33 appearances in the Serie A, 31 of which he started.
"I had a discussion with Tottenham: they believe in him a lot, they will watch him again tonight. A new coach has arrived, playing four is not a problem for the boy," Guarino said to Tuttomercatoweb.
"There is no shortage of admirers because he is a complete player, he has shown over time that he can have a dominant impact on matches. But… one step at a time.
"Today is the European Championship. Then there will be the championship and he is very excited to be living this new adventure with Tottenham".
The door remains open for Udogie to represent three-time African champions Nigeria at international level as he has yet to play a competitive game for his country of birth, Italy.
