Tempers flare as Gift Orban and ex-Man City star clash during Hellas Verona v Inter Milan
Published: November 03, 2025
Tensions briefly flared during Hellas Verona's Serie A clash against Inter Milan after Brazilian forward Giovane scored his first league goal, with teammate Gift Orban and former Manchester City fullback Aleksandar Kolarov at the center of a heated exchange.
According to Calciomercato, the incident occurred moments after Giovane’s equalizer, when Orban, in an exuberant celebration, kicked a dead ball high into the air toward the Inter Milan bench.
Kolarov, who serves as assistant to Inter head coach Cristian Chivu, reacted angrily to the gesture.
Words were exchanged between the Serbian and the 23-year-old Nigerian striker before the situation escalated.
Inter defender Francesco Acerbi, seated on the bench, advanced threateningly toward Orban but was restrained by teammate Pio Esposito.
The touchline tension drew in both benches, with Verona coach Paolo Zanetti seen arguing with Chivu and Kolarov.
Referee Daniele Doveri quickly intervened to restore calm and booked Orban for unsporting behavior.
Although Verona ultimately fell to a narrow defeat, Orban’s performance stood out as a positive takeaway for Zanetti’s side.
He set up Giovane’s goal with a precise assist that split Inter’s defense.
The Nigerian forward almost put Verona ahead before halftime, striking the post in stoppage time with a powerful effort.
