Porto and Rennes interested in 2023 Super Eagles invitee
Published: June 26, 2023
Bruno Onyemaechi's impressive performances last season whilst on loan at Boavista have not gone unnoticed by top European clubs.
The 24-year-old is also pushing to make his international debut for the Super Eagles with manager Jose Peseiro naming him on the rosters for the glamour friendly against Portugal last November and the back-to-back 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Guinea-Bissau in March.
According to various reports in the Portuguese press, including Futebol365, Onyemaechi has emerged as a transfer target for Primeira Liga powerhouse Porto who are in the market for a left-sided defender.
Rennes, who finished fourth in the Ligue 1 and will be competing in next season's Europa League, are also interested in the Nigerian.
Per the report, Onyemaechi would prefer a move to Porto over his other suitors.
Boavista have triggered the option to sign him on a permanent deal from Feirense and are not ruling out transferring him in the offseason if their asking price is met.
Porto are in the driving seat to sign Onyeamaechi unless Rennes and other interested clubs make a higher bid for the defender's signature.
Last season, the former Vila Real player logged 29 appearances in the Portuguese topflight, scoring one goal and had an assist to his name.
