Chelsea and Manchester City fighting to sign Arsenal's history-making midfielder
Published: June 27, 2023Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to slug it out for the signature of Arsenal's history-making midfielder Ethan Nwaneri who became the youngest debutant in the history of the English top-flight last season.
According to Evening Standard, the two clubs are ready to snatch the youngster from the grasp of Arsenal.
It had earlier been reported that Chelsea had already tabled an offer to Nwaneri and Manchester City are set to follow suit.
The 16-year-old's schoolboy contract expires on Friday after which Arsenal might lose one of their most promising youngster.
However, he can still sign a scholarship deal with the Gunners after July provided he has not reached an agreement with a new club, a risk that Arsenal can't afford to take.
The north London-based club has made an attractive offer to the young English International and have mapped out plans on how he will get into the first team.
Should Arsenal fail to reach an agreement in time with the Flying Eagles-eligible midfielder, they will be entitled to a compensation fee which will be determined by a tribunal and will receive a higher amount since he has featured for the first team.
