Nigerian strikers resume pre-season training at Southampton amid transfer links
Published: June 28, 2023Nigerian attackers Paul Onuachu and Nathan Tella have resumed pre-season training at Southampton amid speculation linking the duo with a departure from the Championship club.
The Saints' first team have returned to training at Staplewood Campus in preparation for the 2023-2024 campaign, with Onuachu and Tella part of the group on day one.
Tella spent the whole of last season on loan at Premier League new boys Burnley, and was in high spirits after reuniting with his old teammates.
The Arsenal youth product has been heavily tipped to leave Southampton this summer, this time on a permanent basis, with the Clarets pushing to sign him after a successful loan spell that saw him score 19 goals in all competitions and named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
Onuachu has also been tipped for the exit door, less than six months after his arrival from Racing Genk for a fee of 18 million euros.
The Saints will be looking to get the lanky striker off the wage bill by selling him after his struggles in front of goal in the second half of last season, having fired blanks in eleven matches.
It has been claimed that the FC Ebedei product is on the radar of German quartet Borussia Mönchengladbach, VfB Stuttgart, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Joe Aribo was not spotted in any training pictures which should not come as a surprise considering that the midfielder was on international duty with the Super Eagles ten days ago.
