2021 Super Eagles invitee Olise to miss London derbies against Arsenal and Brentford
Published: June 29, 2023Crystal Palace dazzler Michael Olise will miss the start of the 2023-2024 Premier League season due to injury he suffered while on international duty for France at the ongoing 2023 European U21 Championship.
According to The Athletic (subscription required), the 2021 Super Eagles invitee is facing up to three months out after tearing his hamstring during France's 1-0 win over Norway.
Despite spending 65 minutes on the pitch, Olise was named the Man of the Match thanks to his game-winning strike in the 57th minute - his first in France colours.
He had to be helped off the pitch by his teammates after colliding with Norway goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson.
The 21-year-old has been diagnosed with a grade three tear and the initial prognosis is that he will require three months to regain full fitness.
The former Chelsea schoolboy is expected to miss Crystal Palace's first six league matches of the forthcoming season including London derbies against Arsenal (August 19) and Brentford (August 26).
Olise enjoyed a banner season at the Eagles last term, registering two goals and eleven assists in 37 games in the top-flight, 31 of which he started.
He was voted by his Crystal Palace teammates as the most outstanding player of the season which earned him the Players' Player of the Year Award.
Olise also won the Moment of the Season award for the 94th-minute winner against West Ham United last November, and his injury-time free-kick against Manchester United in January was voted as the Goal of the Season.
