Agent of Super Eagles-eligible player reveals Tottenham will set up in a 4-3-3 next season
Published: June 29, 2023
Stefano Antonelli, who looks after Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent Destiny Udogie, has confirmed that new Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou will set up his team in a 4-3-3 formation next season.
The Greek-born Australian football tactician used a similar formation during his two-year stint at back-to-back Scottish champions Celtic and when he led Australia to win the AFC Asian Cup in 2015.
Tottenham Hotspur secured the signing of Udogie last summer but the Italian-Nigerian youngster was immediately loaned back to Udinese to continue his development, with Ivan Perišić and Ryan Sessegnon ahead of him in Antonio Conte's pecking order.
Udogie is predominantly a left wing-back and could be surplus to requirements with Tottenham shifting from a 3-5-2 to Postecoglou's preferred 4-3-3 formation.
Antonelli revealed that top Italian clubs have made enquiries about the availability of the Super Eagles-eligible player.
"Udogie's story is clear. He is from Tottenham and we have also had contacts in the last few days because they changed management, the coach and why they will play 4-3-3 and no longer 3-5-2," he told Sky Sport Italia via Tuttomercatoweb.
"Postecoglu is overconvinced of Udogie's space, however the Italians are calling because someone thinks he needs another step, perhaps in an Italian top club like Juve, Milan or Inter."
Former Hellas Verona youth teamer Udogie has a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
