Should Super Eagles midfielder Iwobi sign a new deal at Everton?
Published: June 30, 2023
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is running into the final year of his contract with English outfit Everton with the Toffees at risk of losing him for free if he doesn't sign a new deal before the expiration of his contract in June 2024.
Iwobi joined Everton from Arsenal in 2019 and has established himself as a vital player for the club, making 138 appearances in all competitions, notching nine goals and sixteen assists.
While he has established himself as a vital player for the Merseyside-based club and a fan favourite, he must be very careful before signing a long-term deal.
Everton have struggled to preserve their Premier League status in the past two seasons and if they don't make the right recruitment this summer, they might not be third-time lucky next season.
The 27-year-old must be sure that the club has a plan that will make them a regular contender for a place in the top half of the table, at least.
The Hale End Academy product can not afford to be helping the club survive relegation every season and that is why he has to be convinced about their project if he is to sign a new contract.
At this age of his career, he should be playing for a team capable of winning trophies or one that is ambitious of playing in Europe.
If Everton do not have an ambitious plan for the upcoming seasons, he should leave the club this summer for a more ambitious club.
