Official: Chelsea confirm three players of Nigerian descent have left the club
Published: July 01, 2023
Through their official website, English Premier League side Chelsea have published a squad update ahead of the upcoming season.
At academy level, The Blues have confirmed that three players of Nigerian descent are moving on to pastures new following the expiration of their contracts on June 30, 2023.
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke, fullback Derrick Abu and Norway U21 striker Bryan Fiabema will embark on new chapters in their careers.
Barring an unlikely development, Abu, who was also on the wishlist of Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove, will complete a transfer to Southampton in the coming days.
In his final season as a Chelsea player, he registered nine appearances in the Premier League 2, and also played in the Papa Johns Trophy and UEFA Youth League.
Fiabema will be best remembered at Chelsea for finishing the 2021-2022 season as the development squad's top scorer with eight goals to his name in all competitions.
Adegoke did not make a single appearance for Chelsea's youth teams in his final season at Stamford Bridge.
Although the aforementioned players trained with the senior squad, especially during international breaks, they are leaving Chelsea without making an appearance for the first team.
