Coventry City take versatile Nigerian central midfielder on week-long trial
Published: July 03, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Championship club Coventry City have taken versatile Nigerian central midfielder Ifeoluwa Oni on a week-long trial with a view to a transfer this summer.
Oni is on the lookout for a new club following the expiry of his contract with Birmingham City at the end of last month.
In a bid to bolster their development squad ahead of the forthcoming season, the Sky Blues academy coaches will begin running the rule over the 18-year-old Nigerian on Monday, July 3.
Should he impress the coaching staff, Coventry City would be signing a player with the ability to play in different positions on the pitch.
Apart from being able to play as a number 8, Oni can also be deployed at right-back, left-back, right wingback and left wingback.
The promising teenager has the ability to travel with and without the ball at speed, his acceleration, overall top speed and delivery from wide areas are very good.
Oni turned out for Charlton Athletic before signing scholarship forms with Birmingham City for the 2021-2022 season.
Coventry City's development squad competed in the Professional Development League last season.
