Hellas Verona pushing to sign Napoli's Super Eagles-eligible player

Hellas Verona are working on a deal to sign Napoli's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Michael Folorunsho this summer, according to various reports in the Italian press.

Il Mattino via Tuttomercatoweb has reported that Hellas Verona are one step away from signing Folorunsho, a midfielder owned by Napoli, who played for Bari in the Serie B last season.

The Naples-based newspaper added that Hellas Verona are ahead of Empoli in the race to sign the 1998-born player who who is expected to renew his Napoli contract before heading to the Yellow and Blues.

Bari wanted to re-engage Folorunsho for next season but were unable to strike a deal with Napoli as the player wants to feature in the Serie A.

Signed from Virtus Francavilla in 2019, the 25-year-old has not been called up for a first team game since his arrival at Napoli.

He has taken in loan spells at Bari, Reggina and Pordenone, and wore the colours of Tor Sapienza, Savio and Lazio before turning professional.

Folorunsho was one of the best central midfielders in the Serie B last term with eight goals in 27 games in the regular season.

He was called up for an Italian national team training camp for Serie B players last December but did not honour the invitation due to injury.
